Could be the brain created some form of illusion; but there are a lot of witnesses and evidences about the real phenomena. A ball lightning can break through a glass window and travel inside chimneys. There are vitctims too. The electronic excitation for common dimension balls lay betwen 300 to 900 Mhz, easily detected with a patch antenna and a diode.
